  • The letter D is the fourth letter of the English alphabet.
  • It is a consonant.
  • It normally makes one distinct sound \ d \, but may be soft mend or hard bed.
  • At the end of some words, the letter D sounds like a t (for example: talked).
  • The letter D was “Daleth,” the door, and was possibly a fish at first as used by the Phoenicians in 500 B.C. or so.
  • Then about 9 B.C. the Greeks changed it to Delta (D), and the Romans updated it to D.
